MANAGERS AND COACHES
Of
all the little league volunteers, the managers and coaches are perhaps
the most dedicated. Between umpiring games, managing
their team's
games, and practicing with their team, they often spend 4-6 days a week
at the field. They also spend the most time with the players and
therefore have the biggest impact on them. For this reason, selection
is slightly more involved than other volunteer positions.
Besides
the background check, all managing and coaching candidates
(new
and returning) must be interviewed by the league president and a small
committee of the board of directors. This group will evaluate the
candidates and make recommendations to the president regarding the best
choices to manage and coach our teams. The actual appointment of
managers will occur on January
11. The President appoints managers
and coaches, and the board of directors must approve each choice.
Candidates
must also attend an Umpiring clinic, First Aid clinic, and the Manager Orientation and clinic.
