Volunteers
are crucial to the operation of any little league. Just to
hold one game requires two managers, up to four coaches, two
umpires, and an official scorekeeper. Multiply that times the three
games happening on any given weekday, add at least three
concession workers, and you have an idea of the minimum requirement for
every day.
On top of that, there are team parents working on
fundraisers or team pictures, committee members planning special
events, and board members working to keep it all organized. The league
can function with the minimum number of volunteers, but it can only
truly thrive with active participation from a large corps of volunteers.
You
do not need to be the parent of a player to help with little league.
Any adult who can pass a basic background check is welcome. Students
(of appropriate age) can work for the league to build up community
service hours. Retirees can spend time with the league to help stay
connected with the community. Of course, parents and other relatives of
playeers are welcome to help out as well.
